TAKE ACTION ST. MARY’S! This is it! To protect our ability to build a Trinity Center that better meets our needs and the community partners who rely on us, please urge the City Council to approve the project on November 21, 2006! The date for the meeting has been changed to December 5th.

You can make your voice heard by:

  1. Sending a letter to each of the four City Council Members who will decide the fate of this project (a fifth has recused herself). Choose the option you prefer:
    • Simply sign and put your address on the form letters in the Narthex – we’ll mail it for you!
    • Modify the attached template letter to reflect your own personal thoughts (we can email you the file if you prefer). c
    • Send your own personal note of support
  2. Send an email to each of the four City Council members. Chose the option you prefer:
    • Use the email message provided
    • Send your own personal note
  3. Urge your neighbors, friends, and community organizations to support us by contacting the City Council
  4. Join us at the City Council meeting on November 21. There’s nothing like a big crowd to show support for a proposal before the Council.

Here are the people we need to reach (note that both Ms. Iseman and Ms. Pearson-Schneider are running for re-election on Nov. 7!):

Steve Dicterow - Mayor - stevedicterow@hotmail.com
Toni Iseman - Mayor Pro Tem - tiseman2@aol.com
Elizabeth Pearson-Schneider - Council Member - epearson@adworx.net
Jane Egly - Council Member - jhegly@aol.com

Address for all City Council Members:
505 Forest Avenue 505

Subject: Please Approve St. Mary’s Trinity Center

Body:
Dear Mr. Dicterow/Ms. Iseman/Ms. Pearson-Schneider/Ms. Egly:

As a parishioner of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church [and a resident of Laguna Beach], I urge you to approve the proposed Trinity Center Project at the City Council Meeting on December 5, 2006.

St. Mary’s has been a vital part of life in Laguna Beach for more than 75 years. One of the oldest members of the city’s diverse faith community, the church also has been involved with some our most essential social services, including The Community Clinic, the Friendship Shelter, La Playa Center, Operation Brown Bag, and ACTION.

Unfortunately, the size and deteriorating condition of the current Guild Hall have limited our ability to continue this work and made a new Trinity Center a necessity.

To accommodate a range of concerns, St. Mary’s vision for the Trinity Center has been revised many times over the last five years. In addition to successfully addressing city comments, twice earning Planning Commission approval and winning the endorsement of the Parking, Traffic & Circulation Committee, we recently participated in a mediation session with our neighbors that created a new level of mutual understanding and good will. Our continuing work together should help reduce a remaining obstacle to Council endorsement.

The St. Mary’s Trinity Center is both respectful of Laguna Beach’s historic character and integral to its future vitality and diversity. This is a legacy that the City Council can leave to the entire community. Please give the Trinity Center project your enthusiastic support.

With sincere thanks,
